I'm trying to get into a more consistent sketchbook habit again, and here I am on day 2 and almost skipped it. I had intended to get up at 4 and go to the gym but I have a pinched nerve that has been aggravating me, so when my Hatch sunrise alarm woke me up I snoozed and didn't get out of bed until 5.

The reason I almost skipped it is because I had to go into the basement, where my studio is, and I was afraid that the sound of the door opening would wake up my son- he's been getting up at 5:30 lately (ugh!) - but it didn't so I not only painted my daily page, but cleaned some brushes that were way overdue.

So here is the sketchbook. I went with some unusual colors for me, but I am playing with an idea for a new series so just trying a few new things. This definitely isn't the direction this series is going to go, but there are pieces I like. I've been playing with iridescent paint on top of writing and I chose to make a colored iridescent here.

As I write this I'm sitting on my couch, and the sun rises out my living room window so it's cool to see how the color moves as the light hits it. From certain angles you can read the writing through and from others the paint is too opaque. The colored iridescent is a technique I will definitely explore more.

I actually have 3 different concepts I want to explore so I'm hoping the sketchbook pages will help me figure out which is the one I want to do next. Once I know, I'll share more :)
