By Surprise
Living for the hope of me and you
is the fantasy getting me through
and stabbing me like a knife
at the same time
when you’re always just
out
of
reach

but now I’d give anything
to go back to the in between
where the agony was sweet

‘cause I’d gotten used to living
with the dull roar of heartache
but the piercing pain takes me
by surprise

Through the Haze
I think of you
delicate and dreamy
as I’m drifting off to sleep.

The feel of your arms around me,
like the warmth of the sun on my skin,
and I miss
the way you see me
through the haze.

Blessings
We often take for granted
how lucky we are
to breathe, to feel, to wonder
and though life gets heavy, sometimes,
they're there if you look for them
(many times in disguise)
little blessings
of being alive

Excavate
Everything starts and ends
with the heart.
What's left of mine, she wondered,
as she unearthed
each
fragmented
piece
of the past -
exposed.
She carefully cleaned and polished them
one by one.
Her body felt hollow,
the truth brought to light,
and when she tried to put it back together
the pieces didn't fit quite right.

exhale, gaze at breath's escape
winter in the wind

Wisdom
to know
it won't always be like this
a wisdom that is bittersweet
for all the things that you'll miss
as the inevitable winds of change
sweep through, don't resist
when it's time to let go
it's really a gift
